Artist Inspiration: Brian Rea

18 Nov

Great post over at Fast Company on illustrator Brian Rea’s mural work. He has two murals, one is a collection of his fears and the fears/worries of the people around him. He then sectioned the fears/worries out into different categories; physical fears, supernatural fears, political fears, random, and emotional. The other mural focuses on one of his greatest fears: UFO’s. After spending months researching the topic, he illustrated different UFO sightings and the dates/places that they happened. Both murals were done with white chalk and paint and took approximately 13 days to complete.

Pratt Design Grads Team Up With West Elm

20 Jul

West Elm announced today that they were releasing their new line of eco-friendly furniture. They collaborated with recent Pratt design grads to help them bridge the gap between design school and a hands-on real world experience.

“The students had literally just taken off their caps and gowns,” said Debera Johnson, director of The Pratt Design Incubator for Sustainable Innovation. “We brought them together to work on the west elm project as they were making the transition from student to professional. It was a remarkable collaboration and the results really show how Pratt has prepared them for their careers.”

The initial design brief required the Pratt designers to develop a desk, chair, and lamp using sustainably grown, harvested, and/or recycled wood material in order to tell a unique story about the life cycle of materials and the power of conservation and design.

I really want this desk, sleek clean modern lines and simple great design make this a timeless piece.

Love this idea on how to try and eat healthier. This plate uses visualization data to support healthier eating habits. I’m not too sure how much help this would be but nonetheless it’s pretty clever and how cute would this be to eat dinner off of.
